Review of 11:14 (2004) by Alfree D — 28 Oct 2009
Dark comedies are hard to pull off. Seeing people getting hit by cars, shot in arms and more or less castrated is only funny when the tone is right. The tone is wrong in this movie. I really didn't like any other the characters, with the exception of Patrick Swayze's, who seems to be the type of person who wouldn't want to dispose of a body but would do it if it meant his little girl wouldn't get in trouble.
Swayze (R.I.P.) shows that he has comic ability in an otherwise unfunny movie. This is like After Hours if it was directed by Quentin Tarantino channeling Robert Altman. Except, Scorses, Tarantino and Altman all gave us characters we care about and care what happened.
This is just a series of interloped unfortunate events about, well, very bad people doing very bad things and getting their just desserts. This movie had the potential to be something better, but it just didn't work for me.
