Review of 10,000 BC (2008) by Phil S — 02 Mar 2013
"It takes a hero to change the world..".
Wow! Critics and audiences alike absolutely bashed this film. I don't know why this film is so universally hated and best up on, I enjoyed it immensely. 10,000 BC is one hell of a thrill ride that's packed with spectacular visual effects, jaw dropping action sequences, beautiful cinematography and all out action packed entertainment. Director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, Godzilla) can add another jaw droppingly vast film to his resume, a resume that's really starting to pile up with epic films in more than one genre. Emmerich, for the most part, I enjoy his films, however he can be an acquired taste and most definitely isn't universally loved. As I said earlier, critics and audiences alike tore this film to shreds, and yes I admit, there were multiple aspects of ths film that were less than superior, the storyline was all over the place and the script seemed rushed and contrived, the acting was inferior as well. Now with that being said, Emmerich and company make up for the flaws with optically charged, searingly beautiful, vast, wide ranging and hypnotizing cinematography, as well as truly copious amounts of intense pulse pounding action and breathtakingly realistic special effects. Watch as an ancient world is recreated right in front of your eyes, it's hypnotizing.
The acting is far from superior, but for the most part, I was able to tolerate it. 10,000 B.C. features performances from Steven Strait in the lead role, and performances from Camilla Belle, Clifton Curtis and many others to round out the supporting cast.
