Review of 100 Feet (2008) by Steven N — 24 Dec 2009
While the Famke Janssen vengeful ghost flick "100 Feet" is by no means whatsoever a good film, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. Jansen stars as a woman just getting out of prison after murdering her abusive husband.
She is put on house arrest and soon comes to realize that the ghost of her deceased husband is haunting the house. Let me just say right off the bat that Fanke is awful here. I'm fully aware of the fact that she's not exactly known for being one of the great thespians of film, but there are more than a few scenes in this one that are just plain sad.
The type of sad that it becomes cringeworthy - the blonde chick from "The Hills" performing Hamlet cringeworthy. The story is filled with holes, and makes absolutely no sense. It is a horror flick though, so I wasn't expecting a dense multi-layered character study.
The movies only saving grace is the fact that there are some surprisingly decent, shockingly gory moments - stuff that would make Sam Raimi proud. While "100 Feet" is basically your run-of-the mill horror turd, it's not as stinky as some of the other turds that are crapped out all too often.
Do with this information what you will. If it's not showing on Cinemax at three in the morning, and you aren't suffering from a terrible case of insomnia, don't bother.
