Review of 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) by Analisa H — 26 Sep 2012
Those of you who read my blog will know that I am a huge Shakespeare fan, and I am harshly critical of people who attempt to make teen comedy remakes of Shakespeare plays, but try to "hip" them up so much that almost all of the Shakespeare gets stomped out.
This movie, however, is a fantastic recreation of Taming of the Shrew. It appeals to a teen audience who can sympathize with the lives of the characters, and yet it throws aside the idiocy of most teen comedies and remains smart enough to appeal to a wider, more intelligent audience.
The humor is either ironically dumb or impressively smart, and fans of the Bard such as myself will be pleased at the occasional Shakespeare reference. This is a film that a very wide variety of people can enjoy.
