Review of 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) by Simeon T — 06 Nov 2014
One of probably only two of the endless parade of late 90's teen movies (along with American Pie) which has any merit to it at all. I assumed it was tripe, but was surprised how decent it is. Its a takeoff on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, easily the worst of any of The Bard's works that I've encountered, and is a pleasing improvement on that dreary, unfunny offal.
Even here one can see the emerging charisma of the late, great Heath Ledger and as with any of his films a pall has been cast over it. He was looking like today's Brando. He's surprisingly good, in a surprisingly good teen film, arguably the best of its era.
