Review of 10 Rillington Place (1971) by Sarah W — 06 Jan 2008
As a girl who was brought up with the idea that Lord Attenborough was the real Santa Claus who cloned dinosaurs in his spare time, this film is completely disturbing. Attenborough's performance as the serial killer Christie is astounding but, in my opinion, is totally outdone by John Hurt.
Hurt's performance as a simple, uneducated man who is framed for a crime he did not commit is, put plainly, beautiful. When considering that this is not only a true story but one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in British history, this is an amazing story - upsetting, disturbing and brilliantly acted.
Not for the easily upset, but a fantastic film nonetheless.
