Review of 10 Items or Less (2006) by Melissa A — 07 Apr 2010
Morgan Freeman plays an actor who hasnâ??t accepted a role in 4 years decides to try his hand at a new project by entering the world of supermarkets in hopes of finding new inspiration. Being a fly on the wall, he immediately observes a cashier named Scarlet who amazes him by her accuracy and speed as a checker, as well as her presence. Trying to strike up a conversation, at first she is reluctant to share her story but as they begin to take a walk in each otherâ??s shoes, their inner weaknesses start to become one anotherâ??s strengths.
I cannot help but love Morgan Freeman, he is a man who has the ability as an actor to take simple dialogue and have it resonate into deeper meaning. Combined with the empowering performance of Paz Vega, this was a great film to watch. There werenâ??t any special effects to wow the audience, it was very low-budget, and I think that is what added to the charm. It was simply a movie that explored the lives of two people in a very up-close and personal way, who although come from such different backgrounds, find out how similar they really are.
