Review of 10 Items or Less (2006) by Tania R — 05 Aug 2008
10 Items or Less has its moments. Very well written and directed, it will not make you laugh out loud, but there are times when it succeeds in making you giggle. But 10 Items or Less was not meant to be a big hollywood hit. And that is what makes this small movie charming. It tells a simple story in a simple way. While it is a naturally slow paced movie, it is never dull, and it has a few good heartwarming moments. While its dialogue and scenery is quickly forgotten, its message is a little easier to remember. 'If you sit on your ass, nothing will happen.' And this is very true, for both a poor cashier stuck in the 10 items or less lane or a big movie star reluctant to commit to anything. It is also the story of how two people from two completely different world can influence each other so much.
Morgan's performance mediocre compared to some of his other movies, and I believed it was out-shined by Vega's. The chemistry between these two actors was very strong, making the friendship between Scarlett and 'Him' touching and believable.
In all, I enjoyed watching this movie, but it will not be one that I will watch for a second time. Do I recommend it? If you believe it is something that you will enjoy, then yes. But if you are more into blood, guts and explosions, then steer clear...
