Review of 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) by Rey T — 02 Aug 2016
I was intrigued after learning that a new film that would be tied into the Cloverfield universe was coming out. I did not full enjoy the original hidden monster disaster movie but I did appreciate what it was trying to do and the trailers for this new one also flamed my interests. I did not really know what to expect so I assumed that it would be full of cliches and tropes but it was actually the opposite for me because I had no idea what was going to happen along the way. Even though the premise isn't necessarily new, the story still felt creative and inventive throughout. The performances were all around believable and struck the right cords appropriately in each of their respective scenes. This honestly became one of the most thrilling films of the year for me dealing with the unknowing nature of what was really outside, who is telling the truth, and what are the motivations of these characters. This definitely sets itself up for an anthology franchise centering around this alien event and I am interested to see what comes next in this world.
8.5 dancing John Goodman's/10.
