10 Cloverfield Lane is sort of a sequel or spin off to the successful footage monster film Cloverfield, but acts as its own movie as it takes place in the same universe as its predecessor. And this is a tensed and compacted approach for a small thriller movie, as it takes place in a claustrophobic place, which is a far setting from its prequel.

Michelle (Winstead) wakes up on a locked claustrophobic prison who is abducted by Howard (Goodman), an old scruffy-looking man who believes that the air outside is poisonous. Together with Emmett (Gallagher Jr.), Michelle tries to discover the untold truth about the outside world.

One of the greatest things this movie has is the characters. They feel like actual living persons and have importance, motivation and different personalities. They are characters who are actually smart and are trying to solve problems instead of doing meaningless manners to the scenes. All of that is carried by the performances of the actors, especially Goodman. Their backstories bring something to care about their presence to the film. However, this movie falls on its last 20 minutes.

VERDICT: Edge of the seat experiences, tension-filled moments and a solid trio make 10 Cloverfield Lane, a great indirect sequel to 2008's Cloverfield.
