10 Cloverfield Lane is an unusual psychological thriller directed by 1st time director Dan Trachtenberg and produced by JJ Abrams. It stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Michelle who was involved in a car accident and woke up finding herself in an underground bunker owned by Howard (played by John Goodman).

Inside the bunker is also Howard's acquaintance Emmett (John Gallagher Jr). Howard claims that during Michelle's coma..the world encounters an apocalyptic event, rendering the atmosphere outside hazardous and lethal.

We were left wondering whether Howard is telling the truth, or whether he has a sinister hidden agenda. Goodman's acting is phenomenal; terrifying, psychotic, mysterious. Mary's acting as Michelle is also excellent, she is a resourceful heroine that we can empathize and root for to survive.

The film is very tense and terrifying, BUT it does starts slowly. The first hour is painfully slow at times because it is focused on setting up the characters and the location. It is only during the 2nd hour when the truth is gradually revealed.

.that the movie pick up the pace and concluded in a shocking bizzare sequence of events. The ending/resolution might seem incomplete for some people, but I find the ending to be satisfying. Recommended for people who like The Bone Collector and Shutter Island.

NOT recommended for people who don't like to be scared/terrified...or people who are claustrophobic, because the film happens mostly in the bunker. An A-.
