Review of White God (2014) by Gaku S — 28 Aug 2015
Trying to avoid spoilers but read with caution.
A dark "Homeward Bound" woven in with a young woman's coming of age story. That is a gross oversimplification of "White God", with it's mixed view on human morality. The best example being Lili's father Daniel. He is early on shown as a strict and cruel father, but slowly his humanity and love for his daughter is revealed. At worst some of the characters, such as the dog catchers and the meat market butcher, are portrayed as perhaps more evil than need be. Yet, within the confines of what is almost fairy tale in its telling it is forgivable.
Wonderful cinematography, best dog acting I've ever seen (read editing). Upon my third viewing, it may have become one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time.
