Review of Where Is Kyra? (2018) by Ruthie Flynn M — 02 Feb 2017
Sadly, Where Is Kyra falls on its face due to a heavy handed treatment of the epidemic of homelessness in America. The film manages to portray an unsympathetic character as the poster girl for a very serious issue in America, and fails to either provoke a deeper understanding of, or provide any viable solution to the problem.
An overwrought sound track, similar to fingernails scratching a blackboard, arises each time our main character wades into questionable moral territory, making the film close to unwatchable. Treating audience members as idiots, who need to be clubbed over the head to see a point, casts a dim light onto the director, those watching, and the subject matter in general.
Ironically, the main character never does fall into homelessness within the context of the film. Michelle Pfeiffer and Kiefer Sutherland are wasted in this film.
