Review of West Side Story (1961) by Kyle B — 12 Jan 2011
For this review, I have decided to get right to the point. This is a beautiful film. The acting, the directing, the cinamatography, the cheorography--everything is absolute perfection. This is a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet and it not only works, it triumphs.
This film has everything you can ask for, catchy songs, a forbidden love storyline and just darn fine filmmaking. This movie evoked almost as much emotion as Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan did for me, and those movies were based on actual events.
I know this story was fictional, and yet the film made me teary-eyed. A masterpiece in every sense of the word.
