Review of Wadjda (2012) by Kim M — 18 Jun 2014
This was the first movie that I saw from Saudi Arabia, and I just love it. I rooted for the little girl Wadjda through the movie, but the best moment is when her mom, who takes a girl's riding a bike as the destruction of her virginity, buys Wadjda a bike.
The mon saved money to buy a beautiful red dress with which she hopes to rekindle her husband's lost affection. But when he decides to take a second wife, the mom understands that she has been fighting a self defeating battle.
So, she instead decides to empower herself and her little daughter. Sensitive description of the impediment of Arabic women, and I hope that Wadjda rides a bike throughout the whole country!
