Review of Videodrome (1983) by Bryan W — 25 Jul 2009
Disturbingly inventive and prescient of the culture's media immersion, this film is absolutely Cronenberg's most unfiltered, controversial, and best film. The themes perversion and the tendency towards pornographic violence perfectly intertwine with the shocking special effects as the film meanders around the outskirts of narrative in favor of a fractured, hallucinogenic fantasy.
Despite the film's relative obscurity in the context of mainstream film, the innovations helped revolutionize special effects and the themes inspired countless imitators whose tracks cannot be traced back to the film because anything resembling it couldn't help but be a blatant rip-off.
