Review of Vagabond (1985) by Roger T — 24 Jun 2009
Many of the reviews mention the filth (dirt and grime) of the film. It has been many years but I recall a scene between the main character and an old woman. For a few moments, there is such real laughter and connection that the spell of alienation and loneliness is broken for both people.
It is heartbreaking. And wonderful. That one scene is amazing. I don't know much about the actress but she is compelling. There is a strange scene near the end where trees rush past her. (Is it some kind of french forest Mardi Gras?) The movie remains with me.
I think I will try to buy it online tonight. The character and her world is inexpicable and movie doesn't attempt to analyse. I love that. Great film!
