Review of The Woman in the Fifth (2011) by Debanjan C — 18 Jun 2013
The only reason why I decided to watch this is because I have tremendous respect for Ethan Hawke. I respect his work but that said, this has to be one of his weakest. A man travels to Paris to meet his estranged wife and daughter in order to put things straight again.
However, once he is turned down and then robbed he takes a room in a shady hotel, starts working night shifts at a warehouse and has a passionate and intense relationship with a woman who he meets at a party.
Things start going wrong and Ethan Hawke finds himself in the midst of things. The climax which should have been the highpoint turns out to be disappointing. The overall tone of the movie is very, very depressing and it's hard to keep your interest.
Ethan Hawke does his best here but the overall execution is just not good enough. Lifeless and boring.
