Review of The Violent Kind (2010) by Brandon S — 27 Sep 2010
As a fan of biker films I wanted to really enjoy The Violent Kind, but due to the fact that it seems the filmmakers couldn't pick a genre to attack, none of the elements presented get to become anything besides an idea.
Three bikers in the same gang beat up an opposing drug dealer and then set off to an old farm house in northern California to prepare a birthday party for one of there mother's. The party is a hit with a parade of bikers, booze, and strippers, after the party is where the real fun starts.
One of the trios' exgirlfriend shows up with some new dude and once they leave the party she comes back covered in blood and apparently possessed by some sort of demonic power. Plays out like The Wild One meets The Evil Dead meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind and then produced by David Lynch.
There's a lot of good ideas here, but they are not given enough time to develop and that's the film's downfall.
