Whimsical DIY special effects boost this story of a dream-obsessed oddball who is complicated by his beautiful next-door neighbor. The theatrical warmth that defined Michel Gondry's directing on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind is both channeled and augmented for this transfixing love story.
The Science of Sleep is one of my favorite examples of magical realism in cinema.
