Review of The Plague Dogs (1982) by Vig S — 21 Jan 2008
This is such an underrated, unknown gem from the makers of Watership Down. It tells the story of two dogs that escape from an animal research lab, having undergone controversial and experimentally cruel neurosurgery.
They are both infected with a deadly viral pathogen, which whirs locals in the surrounding villages into a frenzy to turn the dogs over to the authorities. Have they really been infected, or is this just the cover story so that the authorities can recover the dogs before the scandal of the barbaric experiments is discovered by the press? Either way it is interpreted, it's a powerful piece of cinema.
