Review of The Page Turner (2006) by Paul H — 14 Aug 2007
This is a somewhat depressing, but fascinating movie in which a young 13 year old feels her hopes of being a concert pianist are dashed by a thoughtless judge at a competition. This is a thoroughly French movie, exploring the inner workings of an angry and determined mind, one so determined that many years later, in her 20s, she sets in motion a plot to completely ruin the life of the one that offended her.
Deborah Francois, who also starred in L'Enfant, is wickedly convincing in this role. You are left guessing how malicious her real intents are by trying to read what the little smiles and intense stares portend for the one who has offended her.
It is not until the very end that you you see what was really in her soul.
