Review of The Magdalene Sisters (2002) by Nicholas A — 16 Jun 2007
This is a true story about 4 women that were sent to a church-organized home for girls, known as the Magdalene asylums in Ireland during the mid-20th century. Bernadette was too pretty at her orphanage...Rose has had a child out of wedlock...Margaret was raped...and Pristina is mentally disabled. The home was meant to help the them, but the girls are practically slaves to the nuns that run the home.
The nuns abuse them, and force them to work in the church's laundry business for no pay. This movie is a gut-wrencher, but it has a very good climatic ending.
