Review of The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse (2005) by Private U — 10 Mar 2009
A few very funny gags aside, I was decidedly unimpressed. The idea of a writer's characters coming into their world is an interesting conceit, very Kaufman, but it takes a huge amount of skill to pull it off, and Steve Bendelack doesn't manage it.
I'm a huge fan of the TV series, but on the big screen it just doesn't work: the Ray Harryhausen style claymation doesn't look quirky and different, it just looks cheap and well ... odd. Shame.
