Review of The Landlord (1970) by Michael J — 18 Jan 2008
Oh my, is this movie hard to take. Beau Bridges as a lily-white upper class tightass who buys a tenement in Park Slope as an investment. Yes, this is all before Park Slope became baby-stroller hell, and Beau's in for it from the hard-done-by residents of his building.
Cringe-inducing to watch the fresh-scrubbed, painfully white Bridges interact with his white family. Even worse is watching him try to dance at a house party. Saving grace: Remembering just how badly white people dressed in 1970.
