Review of The Hero (2017) by Jon C — 12 Sep 2017
Truly the finest performance of Sam Elliot's career.
The film really captures an aging actor reaching the peak of his existence.
Lee is about to turn 72, been resorted to voiceover commercials and hasn't done a film in years.
He's divorced from his wife, his daughter is estranged and on top of that he's been diagnosed with a terrible condition.
He asks whats the next thing to do in his career before it's too late?
Lee's co-star also introduces him to a stand-up comedian played by Laura Prepon who starts an unlikely relationship with him.
Elliot carries the role so flawlessly, Nick Offerman is good, Krysten Ritter plays his daughter well even if she's absent throughout most of the film.
With a character like Lee is there anything left for a veteran actor to do anymore? can he still leave an impact in the world of fame, pop culture, and film?
Soothing music, great visual metaphors for senility, and showing that you can still buy yourself time in this world.
