Review of The Hairdresser's Husband (1990) by Fazley A — 02 Jun 2011
For the romantically inclined and overly sentimental this film is a slam dunk, you will love it. For the romantically challenged, there are still some redeeming qualities that may appeal to viewers who need more than a sap-ridden love story to achieve cinematic delight.
The film meanders without a typical conflict to overcome. There are also a few excellent scenes in this film that are able to sustain interest past being another malodorous cupidian brown trout. The portrayal of boyhood adolescence is spot on, a young fellow all of the sudden discovering the wonderment of the female form thanks to an open blouse of a rubinesque female barber.
The film sacrifices its credibility with the overt sillyness, but Mr. Bean and Shakespeare would be giving each other high-fives. This one is like breaking wind while eating candy hearts.
