Review of The Gymnast (2006) by Emily W — 03 Oct 2007
Patiently gliding to a graceful finish, this movie shows us the story of one woman gradually changing her life. The events that occur feel natural, without the overt romanticization I expected from the material, a former gymnast taken from her calling.
The chemistry between the leads is also pretty good, though I think much of the credit belongs to the believable dialogue and to Addie Yungmee's radiant screen presence opposite Dreya Weber's thoughtful strength.
The director manages to keep a consistent, mature tone from start to finish; just lovely.
