Review of The Great Beauty (2013) by Ankur B — 12 May 2014
The delicate story telling of lonely man at a crossroads brings out the best in Toni Servillo. Packed with immaculate cinematography, the view of the ancient Roma seen through the eyes of a man who is slowing losing everything captures the viewer's attention, escalating him to a state of empathy.
This evokes a sense of calmness when we are reassured that Jep understands his purpose, and makes the most of his vibrant history. La Grande Bellezza is an extremely ambitious film that will test your patience, but in the end it's just a trick, and you will see past the ordinary, revealing the great beauty.
