While investigating (apparently on a whim) the longstanding French laws allowing people to "glean" leftover fruits and vengetables after a harvest, Agnes Varda sidetracks into a meditative exploration of "cinecriture", aging, the innate lack of difference between "junk" and "art", etc.

The people she meets are freaks, survivors, semi-saints. In between, she films her own hands and prepares for death, allowing this film to act as a self-written obituary. It makes me happier every time I see it.
