Review of The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2006) by Chance S — 01 Jun 2007
Daniel Johnston is one of my guilty pleasures. Yes, the quality of his music is not great and at times it is god awful. If you can get past that and his not so great singing there is some great stuff there.
I think the documentary does a great job at looking at the genius of Daniel Johnston and the madness. I think the fact that he is still around and performing is a great accomplishment since many of these great musical geniuses that are mentally disturbed, such as Syd Barret, come on the scene for a little while and collapse under the weight of their mental disturbances and are never heard from again.
