Review of The Bird People in China (1998) by Nj?G? G — 07 Jun 2007
The Bird People in China is a story of the rediscovery of the beauty of humanity in its innocence and simplicity. Miike shows how the bungling of two Japanese businessmen and their hippie guide is brought to a halt upon finding a remote village surrounded by nature undefiled.
They soon forget their conflicting purposes when drawn instead to the wonders and mysteries of this village. Though the character development may be somewhat lacking (it can be difficult to connect fully with the characters), the story is well-paced and presented with much humour.
