Review of Tequila Sunrise (1988) by Michael T — 25 Jan 2009
I kinda liked this film when it came out and rented it on VHS a couple of times and caught it on TV several times but I doubt I've seen it in 10 years. I remember the late Raul Julia playing a charismatic drug dealer; J.
T. Walsh playing a jerk DEA agent; Kurt Russel playing an LA Sherrif's Office Narc; Mel Gibson as a former drug dealer everyone wants to get back into the trade (and an old high school buddy of Kurts); and Michelle Pfeiffer as the woman that both Mel and Kurt are interested in.
At the time, Pfeiffer was one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood and Mel was the new king of Hollywood. The thing I do remember the most is Raul Julia who plays an intelligent, funny, drug-smuggler who pulls the wool over Walsh and Russel's eyes and loves bull-fights.
I'll have to check it out again sometime. The title comes from an Eagles tune but no Eagles tunes are actually featured on the soundtrack.
