Review of Surveillance (2008) by Matt S — 24 Jun 2009
It obviously took Jennifer Lynch a long time to recover from the debacle of "Boxing Helena." Over 15 years later, she returns with a genuinely creepy thriller packed with bad cops, unlucky travelers, and a twist that actually surprised me.
The movie is gorgeously filmed and there are some nice surprises in the acting as well. Julia Ormond hasn't been too busy in the last few years, but she gets down and dirty here. Bill Pullman gives one of the more oddball roles of his career (which is really saying something).
Ms. Lynch has certainly learned a few things about how to set a mood from her father David. She's also cast some supporting roles against type, with strong dramatic turns from comedianne Cheri Oteri and former "3rd Rock From The Sun" star French Stewart.
Playing now on-demand/PPV and in select cities. Screened on HDNnet Movies for its 'sneak preview.'.
