Review of Superman III (1983) by Steve B — 22 Mar 2011
As the years went on Superman started to show signs of age both in looks, acting and storyline. Robert Vaughn plays 'Ross the Boss' in this adventure, greed, money and power he wants and wants it all by using the skillful 'Gus' Gorman and computers.
The twist in this story sees Superman in a slump and turning bad, his costume colours dirty and face, grim and unshaven. I've always liked the scrap yard scene where Superman has to fight Clark Kent and represents the battle of standards for what Superman stands for.
Compared to the earlier movies, he seems to have a harder time in this one catching a breath or getting up from his knocks and doesn't seem to be as 'punchy' or 'Super', apart from helping out people without showing off too much.
Optical effects galore and 8bit screens of technology of the era. Classics to the end.
