Review of Steam of Life (2010) by Juha P — 03 Dec 2010
A heart wrenching glimpse into the souls of melancholic men, beaten down by life and fate. These are the kind of people who have a certain sadness in their eyes, yet they've risen up back to their feet and just continued living.
Their familiar yet tragic stories are conveyed with lengthy and touching monologues through a stationary camera. A trusty companion listens to the stories silently, sometimes nodding and the viewer is compelled to do the same.
Equally still landscape shots and unhurried orchestral soundtrack pace this unpretentious and beautifully simple film.
