Review of Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures (2001) by Tristan G — 02 Dec 2007
This is a fine documentary about Stanley Kubrick's life, his films, his friends, and his family. This is a great thing to watch because Kubrick was not a very well known, public sort of guy. This film traces back to when he was in school.
it doesn't say much about his family life, but the fact that it says anything at all is amazing. The film also mentions the controversy surrounding DR. STRANGELOVE and LOLITA, the on-set problems with Kubrick and Shelly Duvall on the set of THE SHINING, his on again off again relationship with Malcolm McDowell, and his unfinished works, including a film about Napoleon, and Steven Spielberg's f/x extravaganza, AI: Artificial Intelligence.
This is an absorbing documentary about a mysterious and provocative filmmaker whose influence is still extremely prevalent today. Check it out!
