Review of Shotgun Stories (2007) by Alex H — 03 Aug 2008
The plot and themes are familiar, to the point that the lateness of the spark of genuine originality is the difference between great and good. But outstanding understated acting and direction, and the expert grounding of the story in a totally real world, mean this tale of revenge, resentment & hatred feels fresh & inspired.
The ending in particular achieves exactly the right note, where a lesser film would be compelled to be overblown and melodramatic.
