Review of Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007) by Angie M — 07 Sep 2007
The strength of the movie lies in its different way of tackling the Mumbai crime story. Inspired by a real life incident, the movie builds quite steadily towards the climactic encounter between a group of trigger-happy police officers and a gang of aspiring mafia goons.
What was very interesting in the movie was the fact that as the encounter approached, the "good" officers became more dehumanized and the gangbangers became more humanized. Performance-wise, I would have to say that every actor handled his character well.
It was also a surprise to see Amrita Singh, albeit a good one, as she was good in her brief but impactful role. The movie certainly raises some questions on the ethics of such acts and whether drastic steps like such single-minded police encounters can ever be justified.
