Then unknown Amitabh Bachchan was keen to play the role of Gabbar Singh. First timer Amjad Khan was cast in that role instead and till date he is remembered for that one movie. It was Sholay and Deewar both released in 1975 that made Amitabh a superstar and a household name.

Since he dies dramatically in Deewar, much debate followed to refrain Jai from dying in the end. The audience is thankful for they stuck with the original script. Jaya Bachchan was pregnant with Abhishek during some of the shooting.

It was on Dharmendra's recomendation that newcomer Ramesh Sippy decided to cast Amitabh Bachchan in the title role of Jai. This remains one of the cult icon classics of Indian Cinema. Must see movie.
