Review of Secret Honor (1984) by Ben H — 10 Feb 2007
A broken, bitter, Richard Nixon rants into a tape-recorder - reflecting on his life, achievements, and of course Watergate. Altman does a great job of keeping it simple - which is just as well when you have Baker Hall delivering a performance of this quality.
I've always been a fan of Baker Hall - he's one of those character actors that lifts any film he appears in - but here he delivers one of the most incredible screen performances I can remember, and creates a portrayal of the former president which is both complex, angry, sad and pathetic.
