Review of Scanners (1981) by Michael T — 10 Jul 2008
The 2nd movie in Cronenberg's "mid period" films (which starts with THE BROOD and ends with VIDEODROME). Medical science is still the bad guy here but Cronenberg introduces a shadowy military defense contractor that is tied to an even more shadowy pharmaceutical corporation.
Patrick McGoohan (the star of the British cult 60's TV series THE PRISONER) is along for the ride along with the always reliable Michael Ironside as the bad guy Scanner and former model Jennifer O'Neil as a good Scanner. Louis Del Grande (a popular Canuck TV actor) is the Scanner who has his head blown up at the start of this film.
