Review of Satan Met a Lady (1936) by Tony C — 14 Oct 2007
The second adaption of Dashiell Hammett's treasure hunt story gets a plus for ingenuity, but otherwise remains mired in a tired goofball effort to make it funny. Up to the legendary Bogart-Huston collaboration, Sam Spade's character is nothing but a comedian detective who no one can seriously expect to solve this important assignment.
Bette Davis is catchy, but that's not enough to save the production. No wonder it was a box-office failure.
