Review of RoboCop (1987) by Bobby C — 20 Feb 2014
With the remake in the cinemas, this is a good opportunity to review the original. Paul Verhoeven's splatterfest is a feast for the ears, eyes and brain. Biting satire of '80s excess from the ads for cars with sh*tty gas mileage to the coke fueled execs battling over which product should have the approval of the old man.
It's the sature that punches this film above all of the action flicks of the time. Robocop himself comes across as the closest we would ever get to getting Judge Dredd on screen but was ultimately overshadowing by a certain Bat that appeared on the screens 2 years later.
The latter film owes so much to this. Can you fly Bobby boy?
