Review of Respiro (2002) by Laurent M — 04 Sep 2008
Beautifully set Sicilian drama, with a solar performance of Valeria Golino.
The film subtletly evocates the irreconciliable likes of an emotionnally unstable mother, in the constant search of innocence and self-lived freedom, who gets rejected by most of the local community, at the great shame of her loving children and husband.
A great piece of Italian cinema, radiant and realistic at first, and that gets moving and suggestive towards the end.
