Review of Red Hook Summer (2012) by Todd S — 19 Aug 2012
In his most independently spirited film in a long, long time Spike Lee has created a vibrant tale. It's as much a sequel to Do the Right Thing as Prometheus is prequel to Alien, and it holds its ambition off to the side in trying to rival his most classic Brooklyn based movie.
It also recalls his Crooklyn, but flips the experience by having a teenage boy from the South as fish-out-of-water Red Hook resident. Things take a dark turn in its finale, but its a reminder of how masterful Spike still captivates his audiences.
