Review of Razorback (1984) by Jos . — 28 Dec 2007
I'd often heard about this film as Australia's own attempt at Jaws, but with a monstrous pig. Unfortunately it wasn't as trashy as I expected because it was too well made. Director Russell Mulachy, one of the first music video auteurs in the 1980s, uses first-rate cinematography and atmosphere.
He makes the Australian outback look uncannily like the post-apocalyptic world of the Mad Max movies. However, it is too much gravy for not much substance. Of the actors, Bill Kerr fares the best as this film's answer to the Robert Shaw character in Jaws - he gnashes through the woeful dialogue with Shakespearian authority.
The best thing about watching this was coming up with the lame joke about a sequel - Razorback 2: Pig In The City.
