Review of Raining Stones (1993) by Haley B — 03 Feb 2008
It is a Ken Loach film, so it is nothing less than brilliant. This movie has an extremely emotional story, and the performances really enhance that emotion. Loach really shows the audience how hard the life of a poverty-stricken family can be, and how important it is to stick to what you're trying to accomplish, even if your lack of money stands in the way.
There was a problem I ran into while watching this film though...no subtitles. I did have quite a hard time trying to understand the thick accents of the characters. The thing is though, the performances are so well done that it really doesn't matter that you can't understand every word they say.
Bruce Jones was really something; yes I didn't understand all the words he spoke, but his facial expressions, the way he walked, his interactions with his friends and family, and everything else got the message across.
Great film, one of Loach's best.
