Review of Pi (1998) by Isabelle M — 23 Dec 2010
An odd and quirky independent film that began one of the most spectacular careers of our time-- Darren Aronofsky. The black and white format, including the high contrast ratio adds to the concrete one way or another numbers theme.
The chaotic sound effects, and score, done wonderfully by Clint Mansell, add to the chaos of the number universe. The entire movie was amazingly done, and the execution was perfect. The acting, though not in the highest ranks, was suiting for the film.
Finally, though there was confusion throughout the movie it ends with such a peace and finality that it is hard to imagine the movie began where it did. Aronofsky did a wonderful job taking us through the world of New York, and the world of a paranoid mathematical genius.
