Review of Persona (1966) by Tristan G — 20 May 2009
One of the most beautiful and frightening films ever made. This is a horror film, with dueling identities, super-imposed images, clips of everything from dead sheep to silent films, ripped film, horrifying music, and the constant reminder that everything taking place is a film and we, the audience and the characters in the film, have absolutley no control over what will happen.
Persona walks a very fine line between a surreal dream and a total nightmare, and the end result is a fascinating masterpiece that is one of Bergman's greatest.
